Books

Books are the better movies, some might say.

Remember the last Zombie movie you have seen. You might have imagined how it all started and of course what will survivors do next? Books provide the possibility of more detail, more blood & gore and maybe a completion of the story. Here I will advise on some of the good stuff I read in the past.

Allison Hewitt Is Trapped: A Zombie Novel
"Allison Hewitt is trapped" by Madeleine Roux
Great story about a group of people holding out in the staff room of a book store first. After moving out and finding other survivors, beeing split up and re-joined they are surviving in a sheltered area. However, the fight to survive goes on. Nicely written, violent and fast paced. A good read for anyone who's interested in a solid story about the world after the outbreak.

Plague of the Dead: The Morningstar Saga
"Plaque of the Dead" by Z. A. Recht
From the early symptoms to a full blown outbreak, covering massive military operations and the search of organized survivors for a suitable hideout. A good read and highly recommended.

"Thunder and Ashes" by Z. A. Recht

The sequel to Plaque of the Dead. Good to foolow the guys making their way through the devastated country, fighting men and monsters alike.

 Day by Day Armageddon

"Day by Day Armageddon" by J.L. Bourne
An army officer writing a diary during the apocalypse. Actually three books while the third part is still pending. It has everything about big hordes, military equipment and up and downs from being safe to loose everything again to only the life to defend. Not bad at all, should be basic literature for the prepared survivor.

The Mammoth Book of Zombie Apocalypse!
    "Zombie Apocalypse" by Stephen Jones
An old graveyard is opened up for modern construction and out comes the zombie plaque, to make it short. Nicely arranged story around emails, diary entries, letters and blogs and so on. Very personalized storytelling, definitely a good read.

    Dead Sea
    "Dead Sea" by Brian Keen"
Total apocalypse, man and woman and child and dog and fish and bird and rat and every other living creature becomes a living dead. No way out, the fight for survival is even more challanging compared to other stories.

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
World War Z" by Max Brooks
A summary of interviews with survivors of the zombie wars. Interesting variation set after a world wide outbreak, describing the struggle to gain back the upper hand and re-establish humanity. Currently a movie is in preparation, scheduled for release in December 2012. Starring Brad Pitt and Bryan Cranston. Check it out here:

    "Dead City" by Joe McKinney
A police officer trying to reach his family during the outbreak. Solid story with some good surprises.

    Apocalypse of the Dead

"Apocalypse of the Dead" by Joe McKinney
After the big outbreak the incected areas are contained and separated by a big wall. Security is breached and the outbreak carries on all over the country.
